Designing a comprehensive reporting system to help product design and technology innovation consultancy 42T deliver more digestible data.

The challenge
42T are a product design and technology innovation consultancy helping clients solve complex engineering problems and developing innovative new products across the consumer, industrial, and healthcare sectors. Along side their consultancy 42T create thought leadership content to keep their clients in touch with trends and advancements in their sector. With their latest reports on the future of consumer products and consumer sustainability drafted and ready to go they now needed a compelling design approach for the reports to engage their audiences.
Our approach
We opened the conversation with 42T in a remote briefing session to uncover what their aims and objectives for the reports were and to get a better understanding of the subject matter and content format. The reports had to work in both print and digital environments so the design strategy need to be sympathetic to multiple audience types.
Our solution
Our first step was to review the content and establish a defined design hierarchy that would accommodate multiple content types including, charts, graphs, infographics, tables, callouts, and broader editorial content. We defined key styles to give every aspect of the narrative its own sense of purpose and presence and brought raw data to life through visually arresting and highly digestible Infographics. With consumers at the heart of the reports we created a design approach that humanised the content using photography to paint a picture of the experiences of end users.
The result
Our design solution succeeded in transforming 42T’s insight into a compelling visual narrative. And has now established a templated house style for their in-house teams to apply to all subsequent reports.
